At Barefoot Retreats we celebrate living simply, sustainably, healthily, joyfully and consciously.

Started by Angus McLean, The Barefoot Chef, the retreats are a way to share the benefits

of a life led this way.

Yoga has been a big part of my life since I was a University student, 23 years ago.

Having kept up my practice for 16 years I travelled to Rishikesh, India

to embark on my Asthanga Vinyasa Yoga teacher training.

I now specialise in Kundalini yoga, Qi Gong and mindfulness based yoga therapy

and have been teaching around New Zealand since 2012.

After a year working as a retreat leader/yoga teacher at the amazing Aro Ha in Queenstown

I felt I was ready to turn my dreams of running my own retreats at Bethells into reality."

We offer affordable day retreats set in the heart of beautiful Bethells Valley,

just a short 35-minute drive from Auckland CBD, but a world away from modern life.

The day-long, accessible retreats are perfect for busy people who would find it hard

to drop everything and disappear for a week or more to some far-flung destination. 

Barefoot Retreats blend transformative yoga, dance and movement

with lovingly prepared plant-based food, mindful hiking,

meditation and learning.

We are based at HeartSong Dance Temple, Te Henga (Bethells Beach).

Just 35 minutes drive from Auckland CBD and 5 minutes from the wild,

untamed beauty of Te Henga. This place is very special.

Te Henga draws its energy from the land and surrounding sea and for centuries

…this spiritual place has attracted people from around the globe.

Ancient Maori believed that Te Henga harnessed a deep spiritual connection that transcends time.

"Literally life changing.

I had so much anxiety as I didn't feel advanced enough

spiritually or yoga wise to participate or be accepted.

I spent a lot of the day alone..and more silent than I normally ever are as I don’t cope well energetically around multiple people.
